CM mourns Seshan’s death

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday condoled the demise of former Chief Election Commissioner and Ramon Magsaysay awardee TN Seshan on Sunday remembering his major contribution to bring electoral reforms in India. Patnaik paid tribute to the great soul on his Twitter handle. Seshan was well-respected across party lines for his integrity and dedication towards democratic processes, he added.

Rosalin speaks at London forum

Bhubaneswar: Parichaya Foundation founder Rosalin Patsani Mishra delivered a speech at the prestigious Women Economic Forum at the Kensington Holiday Inn Hotel in London recently. The topic of her speech was “Hunger-free, food security, high nutrition, and women power”. Patsani represented India among a total of 45 speakers. 

Club Sunrise holds blood, eye donation camps

Bhubaneswar: The Club Sunrise here organised blood and eye donation camps on Sunday. SSEPD Minister Ashok Chandra Panda, former Corporators Biranchi Narayan Mahasupakar, Puspa Das and Santosh Mohanty attended as guests and inaugurated the camps. A total of 65 units of blood were collected and 42 people pledged to donate eyes. Members of Red Cross coordinated the programme. Club VP Saroj Chandra Jagadev, secretary Sibasis Mohanty, assistant secretary Udit Kumar Mohanty and treasurer Jashobanta Nayak were present.

KiiT School tops at Young Innovator Prog

Bhubaneswar: The KiiT International School has bagged 1st position for the project “Water Dispenser for Differently Abled People” in the Young Innovator Programme organised by the IIT, Kharagpur. The project was presented by Standard-8 students Pritesh Deb, Divyam Sahu and Ankit Pradhan under the guidance of Bijoy Mathur and Jharana Pany. The students were awarded certificates, trophy and a cash award of Rs 50,000. Founder, KIIT and KISS Prof Achyuta Samanta congratulated the entire team of INSPIRON and encouraged them to continue being part of such events.

LIC Employees’ hold Union annual general meet

Brahmapur: The LIC Employees’ Union Brahmapur Division held its 3rd annual general conference here on Saturday under the chairmanship of its president Sanatan Acharya. AITUC State vice-president Prakash Patra, district secretary Alaknath Mishra, Sankar Prasad Paricha, Ajay Patnaik, Prabhakar Nayak and Manmath Padhy attended as guests and spoke about how the LIC has come up as a leading organisation in the insurance sector. Union general secretary Suresh Chandra Tripathy read the annual report. 

Bike lifter held at Khariar

Nuapada: One Girish Nayak (28) of Barapadar village under the Khariar PS was arrested on Sunday night and forwarded to court on Monday for lifting two m motorcycles. "Girish lifted a Honda Shine bike of Kumar Sagar of Duriapada of Khariar town which was parked in front of the CHC and a Hero Splendor smart bike of Jagdish Das from Tukla by using duplicate keys and sold those to one Pyarelal Parabhoe of Dudkapada village under the Muribahal PS of Balangir district," said Khariar PS IIC Kailash Chandra Sethi. The bikes were recovered. The accused was arrested by a police team led by SI Purna Pradhan.
