The Additional District and Sessions Judge Court here on Saturday sentenced a youth, Digambar Majhi, to undergo 10 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) for sexually harassing a minor girl at Palikiri village under the Dhamnagar police station in the district in 2016.
The court also asked the convict to pay a fine of Rs 1 lakh for the offence.
On November 1, 2016, Majhi went to his neighbour’s house and outraged the modesty of an eight-year-old girl. Later, when he attempted to rape the minor after taking her to the terrace, her grandmother came to her rescue hearing her screams.
A case was later registered with the Dhamnagar police by the girl’s uncle, following which the cops arrested Majhi. He was lodged in jail as an under-trial prisoner (UTP) since then.
