Baripada ex-Amin gets 1-yr RI in graft case

Cuttack: The Vigilance Special Judge on Wednesday convicted Baripada Laxmiposi SIP former Amin Sarat Chandra Sethy for demanding and accepting illegal gratification of Rs 13,000. Sethy was sentenced to undergo one year rigorous imprisonment (RI) and to pay fine of Rs 5,000, in default, to undergo more three months’ RI. He had taken bribe from complainant Laxman Biroli to take steps for release of his second phase of rehabilitation assistance money and accordance of sanction of rehabilitation assistance in favour of complainant’s sons.  

MCL pays homage to martyred CRPF Jawans

Sambalpur: Miners at the Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) on Friday held a prayer meeting and paid tributes to CRPF Jawans, who were killed in terrorists’ attack in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday. CMD RR Mishra, Director (Operations) JP Singh, Senior Advisor LN Mishra, CVO Munawar Khursheed and Director (Finance) KR Vasudevan were present. A two-minute silence was observed.

Adani holds inter-school girls athletic meet

Dhamra: The Adani Dhamra Port organised an inter-school girls athletic meet here on Wednesday wherein 48 aspirants of eight high schools participated. Ram Narayan High School Headmistress Subhasmita Tripathy inaugurated the meet in which various sports like 100, 200 meters sprinting, high jump, short foot throw were held. Six PET teachers from various schools coordinated the meet. Bhadrak DEO Sangram Sahu attended as guest at the award ceremony and distributed prizes to the winners and also gave the token of love to the schools for their initiation among the girl students towards sports.

GKEL holds Road Safety Week

Bhubaneswar: The GMR Kamalanga Energy Limited (GKEL) celebrated Road Safety Week from February 4 to 10. Poster making, quiz and debate competitions and audio visual training were organised on the theme “Sadak Suraksha-Jeevan Raksha” among employees and contract workers. Schoolchildren from GMR Varalakshmi DAV Public School, Saraswati Sishu Mandira, Mangalpur and Achalkot Primary School participated. Awareness programmes also conducted for drivers and helpers of trucks at different locations. GKEL COO Ramesh R Pai appreciated the programmes, organised jointly by the EHS department and the GMR Varalakshmi Foundation.
