Meeting with liquor vends, distilleries’ owners to finalise Excise Policy

Chandigarh: UT Deputy Commissioner-cum-Excise and Taxation Commissioner Mandip Singh Brar on Tuesday held a meeting with the retail sale liquor licences to discern their grievances and suggestions regarding the new Excise Policy for 2019-20. Major suggestions given by the licensees were with regard to maintaining minimum retail sale price of liquor fixed by the Department, rationalisation of excise duties and other levies and fixation of the minimum price of imported foreign liquor to prevent under cutting of prices of bio-brands of liquor and approval of labels well in time so that supply of liquor becomes normal from the first day of the Policy Year 2019-20.

BSNL improves network, subscribers give thumbs-up

Chandigarh: As per TRAI report on drive tests released recently, the Government telecom company — Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) — has met KPIs in all five parameters in both 2G and 3G in three cities, which is the best amongst its competitors. BSNL’s performance has been continuously improving as can be seen from statistics of drive test done by TRAI during 2017-18 and current financial year. Subscribers have welcomed the improvement in network performance and attractive plans offered by porting to BSNL in large numbers. BSNL is one of the two operators to show net addition of 5.56 lakh subscribers during December 2018, as per latest TRAI report.

Dr Meena appointed PU placement cell director

Chandigarh: Dr Meena Sharma, Professor, University Business School, Panjab University, has been appointed as PU’s placement cell director. Prof Sharma, who has more than 28 years of teaching and research experience, is also on the editorial board of various national and international journals. 

Report on NDPS Act in Punjab released

Chandigarh: The Centre for Human Rights and Duties in collaboration with VIDHI-Centre for Legal Policy, New Delhi, organised panel discussions on the theme ‘Working of NDPS Act in Punjab’ on Tuesday. Justice (retired) Ranjit Singh of the Punjab and Haryana High Court in the presence of PU Vice Chancellor’s secretary Professor Devinder Singh, Neha Singhal (VIDHI) and Centre’s chairperson Dr Namita Gupta launched the report compiled by Vidhi Centre on the theme of ‘From Addict to Convict: The Working of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, (NDPS Act) in Punjab’.

Pumpkart to create India's largest market place for industrial products

Chandigarh: Pumpkart, a Chandigarh grown start up, has announced an ambitious plan to launch India's largest online market place in industrial products. The B2B platform will provide products like appliances, building hardware, electrical & electronics and industrial supply. Initially around 10-12,000 products would be on the menu of a revamped Pumkart B2B portal, said K S  Bhatia, Founder & CEO, Pumpkart.
