Punjab condoles demise of Sushma Swaraj

Chandigarh: Punjab Governor and UT Administrator, VP Singh Badnore expressed profound grief at the untimely demise of senior BJP Leader and former Union Minister for External Affairs, Sushma Swaraj.  In his condolence message, the Governor said that in the death of Sushma Swaraj, the Nation has lost an illustrious daughter, prolific orator and a distinguished leader. Terming it his personal loss, the Governor said that the void created by the passing away of Sushma Swaraj was difficult to fill. Her contribution as the Nation's External Affairs Minister was immense and unforgettable and her committed democratic attitude and dedication to the well being of the people will be always remembered, Badnore said.

One day mourning observed in UT

Chandigarh: As a mark of respect to Sushma Swaraj, former Union External Home Affairs, one day State Mourning was observed throughout the union territory of Chandigarh on August 7. and the National Flag was flown at half mast throughout the citu. In continuation to the same, half day was observed as holiday in all Government Offices/Boards/Corporations including Educational Institutions under the Chandigarh Administration.

Female expedition to Mount Kilimanjaro

Chandigarh: Hero Cycles is co-sponsoring a major mountain expedition of seven young girls who are set to embark on a life changing journey to Africa's highest mountain peak Mount Kilimanjaro.  Located in Tanzania, East Africa, Kilimanjaro peak is at 5895 metres above sea level and the school girls will attempt to become the youngest climbers to this monumental summit. The girls between ages 15 to 18 years are students of The Lawrence School, Sanawar, Himachal Pradesh. The seven girls were given a send off from their School on August 7.   The students are Ishampreet Kaur (17, Ludhiana), Roshni (19, Delhi), Avanti Aggarwal (15, Solan), Mahika Goel (17, Palampur), Ananya Panchhar (17, Delhi), Megan Bhagirat (17, Kullu Manali) and Kashish Pathania (17, Pathankot)

Conference held at CII northern region hq

Chandigarh: Government and Industry Cooperation is necessary to spur the growth momentum in Punjab,” said Harish Chavan, chairman, CII Punjab State and Chief Executive Officer, Mahindra & Mahindra (Swaraj Division) at a Conference held at CII northern region headquarters.  He shared that the need of the hour is to have a long term perspective and joint approach to address current problems like skilled manpower unavailability, quality power, poor infrastructure, etc. Progressive companies have taken a lead in adopting global best practices and implementing operational excellence initiatives like lean, six sigma, TPM, integrated business planning, etc in the last decade.

Naresh Yadav reiterated the demand of AIIMS

Chandigarh: Former MLA Naresh Yadav from Ateli, district Mahendragarh has reiterated the demand of AIIMS at Manethi (Rewari) in view of the increasing problems of the people of the area. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced to build AIIMS in Manethi at a program held in Kurukshetra in February this year and the budget of Rs 1300 crore for AIIMS in Manethi has also been passed in the interim budget presented in Lok Sabha but Forest Department has refused to allot the marked space for AIIMS. Despite the announcement and assurance of Prime Minister and Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal, the work is still hanging. Yadav said, district Mahendragarh and Rewari are the backward area as compared to other districts of Haryana and there is a lack of basic medical facilities.

Plantation drive at Toddlers Ashiana

Chandigarh: The students of Toddlers Ashiana, Sector-9, on Wednesday virtually laid the seeds of greener environs by planting saplings and other herbal plants in the school grounds. The activities were aimed at making the children, growing up in urban set up, feel one with the environment and promote a sense of responsibility among them towards their surroundings. School principal Lalita Parkash said that the teachers told the children about the importance of trees and plants for human beings and the environment. The activity also taught the children the importance of saving earth by planting more trees.

Case registered against lady driver

Chandigarh: A case under Section 279 (Rash driving or riding on a public way), 337 (Causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 304 A (causing death by negligence) of IPC has been registered against Nihar Kaur, a resident of Chandigarh who was driving a Thar Jeep and hit Akshita Abrol, 21 near dividing road, Sector 21/34 here on Tuesday. Abrol was declared dead at the hospital. The accused Nihar Kaur was arrested and later bailed out. The victim, Akshita Abrol, a native of Jammu and Kashmir, was taking coaching for bank PO exam and residing as a PG in Sector 21 here.

Three arrested under NDPS Act

Chandigarh: The UT Police arrested Santosh Kumar, resident of village Hallomajra near Modella Light Point and recovered 170 capsules of tramadol hydrochloride dychlomine hydrocloride acreaminophen drugs from his possession. A case under Section 22 NDPS Act has been registered in PS-Ind. Area. Investigation of the case is in progress. The UT Police also arrested a woman, resident of Sector 38 and recovered 24 injections of pheriramine and  buprenorphine drugs from her possession. Shambhu Parsad, resident of village Jatahan, district. Kushi Nagar, UP was arrested from Sector-56 and  7.580 Kg poppy husk was recovered from his possession.

State Level Independence Day function at Shimla

Shimla: The state level Independence Day function will be organised at Shimla on  August 15, which will be presided over by Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur. Education Minister Suresh Bhardwaj will also attend the function. Speaker, HP Vidhan Sabha Rajiv Bindal will preside over the district level function at Solan, Irrigation & Public Health Minister Mahender Singh Thakur at Hamirpur, Urban Development Minister Sarveen Chaudhary at Una, Agriculture Minister Dr. Ram Lal Markanda at Keylong (Lahaul-Spiti), Health Minister Vipin Singh Parmar at Dharamshala (Kangra), Rural Development & Panchayati Raj Minister Virender Kanwar at Bilaspur, Industries Minister Bikram Singh at Kullu, Forest Minister Govind Singh Thakur at Mandi, Social Justice & Empowerment Minister Rajiv Saizal at Nahan (Sirmour).

Annual Day held at Lawerance Sr Sec School

Chandigarh: Lawerance Public Sr Sec School, Sector 51, Mohali celebrated its annual day titled “ VATAVARN “ with zeal. The chief guest Jagdeep Sehgal , SDM Mohali inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp. The programme commenced with invocation  dance – ‘Saraswati Vandana’. The talented students presented mesmerizing events. The senior class students enacted a musical play on the need to reduce stress among students.

Surgical Gastroenterology clinic changes days

Chandigarh: The Surgical Gastroenterology clinic will now run on Tuesdays and Fridays, 3rd floor, C Block, New OPD Complex instead of Mondays and Thursdays at PGIMER. The registration of all the patients will take place on third floor instead of  ground floor. The Surgical Gastroenterology  Clinic is run by Prof. Rajesh Gupta, Prof. T D Yadav, Prof. Vikas Gupta and Dr. Harjeet Singh.
