Punjab asks FBOs to ensure hygiene
Chandigarh: Aiming to ensure supply of hygienically prepared food in Punjab, all the Food Business Operators (FBOs), engaged in online food supply through online food delivery aggregator companies, have been directed to ensure the hygiene rating of their establishments by October 31, 2019. Failing which, appropriate action under the law would be initiated, said the state Food and Drug Administration commissioner KS Pannu. He said that the hygiene rating of the establishments can be accomplished through any of 23 companies empanelled with Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).
Punjab SC Commission takes suo-motu notice
Chandigarh: Taking suo-motu notice of the reports regarding clash between dalit and upper cast communities in Sherkhan village, the Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission has sought a report from Ferozepur Senior Superintendent of Police. Commission’s chairperson Tejinder Kaur said that the SSP has been asked to submit detailed report up till September 17.
Patiala man hits Rs 1.5cr Rakhi Bumper Jackpot
Chandigarh: Patiala’s 63-year-old Avtar Singh has won Rs 1.50 crore first prize of Punjab State Rakhi Bumper-2019. Feeling extremely happy, Singh said that he had never even dreamt of winning such a big amount in life but Punjab State Rakhi Bumper has made it possible. This time, he bought the ticket after 15 years unwillingly as in past he had never won such a big prize. Singh on Tuesday submitted the documents to Punjab State Lotteries Department at Chandigarh for encashment of the prize, and expressed faith in the fair and transparent manner in which the Department has announced the draw.

Khanna conferred with doctorate title
Chandigarh: Sikkim Education Minister Kunga Nima Lepcha, along with the ICFAI University Chancellor Rampal Kaushal, on Tuesday conferred BJP national vice chairman Avinash Rai Khanna with the title of Doctorate in Literature (D Lit) recognizing his work for investment of downtrodden and needy as Rajya Sabha MP and the Indian Red Cross Society’s vice-chairman. Besides being the party vice-chairman, Khanna is also in-charge of Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan, Goa and Tripura. He has been MLA, MP Lok Sabha and MP Rajya Sabha from Punjab besides being member of Punjab Human Rights Commission.
One arrested with 125 gram heroin
Chandigarh: Haryana Police has arrested a person wanted in drug peddling and recovered 125.05 gram heroin from his possession. Spokesperson said that arrested accused identified as Ajay Kumar, a Patiala resident, was arrested by a team of Crime Investigation Agency, Ambala, from Ram Darbar, Phase-II, Chandigarh. The Police team on September 7 had nabbed a person of Ambala district with 10.02 gram heroin, and he revealed during interrogation that he purchased seized contraband from Ajay Kumar. Following this, the Police team had arrested key person involved in drug peddling along with heroin.
25th JP Atray tournament concluded
Chandigarh: Haryana Director General of Police Manoj Yadava on Tuesday said that the All India JP Atray tournament has been playing a major role in promotion of sports culture especially the cricket across the country. Yadava, speaking after inaugurating the final match of ‘25th All India JP Atray Memorial Cricket Tournament’ played between Punjab Cricket Association and PCA Colts at Sector-16, Cricket Stadium, said that it is a significant platform to provide opportunities to the young players of the country to showcase their talent.
MCC’s weekly ward level meeting held
Chandigarh: The weekly ward level meeting of Municipal Corporation Chandigarh, for ward no 7 and 12, was held under the chairmanship of Mayor Rajesh Kumar. During the meeting, the issue providing tubewell in Gwala colony, strengthening of water supply line, proper cleaning of sewerage system, and installation of children playing equipments, benches and huts in the parks were discussed for ward no 7. For Ward no 12, the issues of repairing street lights in sector 52, maintaining green belt in Kajheri, strengthening water supply line, proper cleaning of sewerage in sector 52, and construction of tin shed in sector 52 were discussed.
