Punjab Min to participate in Education Conclave

Chandigarh: Punjab’s Cabinet Ministers including Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Charanjit Singh Channi, Vijay Inder Singla, Balbir Singh Sidhu, among others would be participating in an Education Conclave-2019, to be organized by Joint Action Committee (JAC) representing over 1650 unaided institutes of Punjab, on  August 19 to deliberate on Draft National Education Policy (NEP). Besides, Principal Secretaries, Secretaries, Directors and Vice-Chancellor’s of IKG-PTU, Jalandhar, MRS-PTU, Bathinda, Punjabi University, Patiala, Baba Farid University, Faridkot, and over 250 intellectuals from various Universities, Colleges, Schools etc would also deliberate on the education policy.

Tewari reviews flood situation in Anandpur Sahib

Ropar: Shri Anandpur Sahib MP Manish Tewari closely monitored the flood situation on an hourly basis  since late Saturday evening in conjunction with the local administration and  the Bhakra Beas Management. The rescue and relief operations are on- going in various areas. He also issued instructions for assessing the losses to the standing crops due to the floods after the situation stabilises. The MP said, while the administration has already taken precautionary measures, but due to the heavy and continuous rains, several areas had been flooded and crops had been damaged.

Retired IAS officer Ram Niwas dies

Chandigarh: Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal has expressed deep condolences on the demise of Ram Niwas, IAS (Retd.), chairperson, State Police Complaint Authority. He breathed his last at PGIMER here on Sunday.  The Chief Minister expressed his heartfelt condolence to the bereaved family members and prayed the Almighty that the departed soul might rest in peace. The retired IAS officer served on many prestigious positions in Haryana Government, Central Government as well as in Chandigarh Administration. The cremation will take place at 11 am on Monday at the cremation ground in Sector 25, here.

BCI bans new law colleges for 3 years

Mohali: To address the mushrooming of already existing law schools across the country, the Bar Council of India (BCI), New Delhi — a statutory body that regulates legal practice and education in India — on August 11 passed a resolution to impose a three-year moratorium on opening new law colleges in the country. Punjab Unaided Colleges’ Association’s (PUCA) president Dr Anshu Kataria said that BCI BCI should give exemption to those Colleges who have already bought land or applied for CLU for the opening new law college before the date of this notification.

Dr Sen conferred with Himachal Gaurav Award

Chandigarh: Dr (Prof) Ramesh Kumar Sen, currently working as senior director and head of Institute of Orthopaedics Surgery at Max Hospital, Mohali, has been conferred with Himachal Gaurav Award by Himachal Pradesh Government for his outstanding services in health sector. Himachal Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur presented the award to Dr Sen during Independence Day celebrations at Shimla on Thursday. Hailing from Sundernagar in Himachal’s Mandi district, Dr Sen is a renowned name in the field of orthopedics in the region, with over three decades of experience backing him.

BOI to make banking more citizen centric

Chandigarh: Bank of India (BOI) Chandigarh zonal office organised a Bankers Meet at Hotel Parkview in Sector 24 here. The two-day conference which concluded here, besides other issues, deliberated on make banking citizen-centric as well as more responsive to the needs and aspiration of senior citizens, farmers, small industrialists, entrepreneurs, youth, students and women. More than 100 branch managers from Chandigarh, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh attended the bankers meet. The purpose of the meet was to generate ideas and review performance of banks and their alignment with national priorities.

Students rejoice at stunt show

Phagwara: Locals students witnessed KTM stunt show organized at Lovely Professional University here. The stunt-show was organized in order to showcase the stunt rides and tricks from the professional stunt riders. The professional stunt team demonstrated breath-taking stunts on the KTM Duke bikes.  Sumeet Narang, vice president- Probiking, Bajaj Auto Ltd, “The event was open to all and the spectacular stunts took the  city by a storm.”

‘PSYCH-ED 2019’ zonal finals held

Chandigarh: Fortis Hospital organized the zonal finals of the 4th edition of its national psychology quiz programme ‘PSYCH-ED, 2019’ here. Tanvi Saxena, Aishwarya Goyal, Gurkeerat Singh Nayyar from Delhi Public School, Sector 40-C here battled other schools in the zone to enter the national finals. Psych-ED, the national level annual psychology quiz by for school students organized by Fortis Healthcare, saw a participation of more than 4000 teams from 7004 schools in its 4th edition. The quiz is designed for students from Class XI & XII, aiming to test their knowledge of Psychology and its concepts.

Banker's Meet of Punjab and Sind Bank

Chandigarh: As per the guidelines received from Ministry of Finance, Government of India, Jatinder Kumar, Zonal Manager, Chandigarh held a meeting with Branch Heads of Chandigarh, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh headed by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer,  S. Harisankar. The subject of the meeting was- “Campaign for generation of ideas and consultation till branch level- Banker’s meets at regional/State/National levels.” This was first of its kind consultation where the branches were themselves asked to review their performance in areas such as Credit support for economic growth, Infrastructure, industry, Farm sector, Jal Shakti, MSME sector, MUDRA loans, Green economy, Swachh Bharat etc. The meeting gave participants a renewed sense of involvement and purpose to improve performance and align themselves with national priorities and partnering with Indian growth story.
