24 patients operated at LNJP admitted in PGIMER

Chandigarh: Advanced Eye Centre, PGIMER, Chandigarh has received 24 patients of post cataract surgery endophthalmitis in last couple of weeks. They were operated for cataract surgery at LNJP DCH, Krukhshetra, said an official spokesman. At AEC PGIMER, till now 19 patients has been operated i.e. pars plana vitrectomy and intravitreal antibiotics. All the patients are doing well on topical and systemic antibiotics. Their vision is gradually improving. None of the patient has complete loss of vision. Eleven patients have been discharged and advised regular follow up, the spokesman said while adding that as of today, 13 patients are still admitted in AEC and monitored on daily basis. Of these, 5 will undergo vitrectomy on Tuesday.

graft case against 2 head constables registered

Chandigarh: Punjab State Vigilance Bureau has registered a corruption case against two head constables (HC) for accepting bribe of Rs 5,000 cash and a cheuqe of Rs 25,000. In this case one constable has been arrested. A spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau said the VB registered a bribery case against head constables Chamkaur Singh and Devinder Singh, both posted at Maur police station in Bathinda district. He said a complainant named Kamal Mittal of ward-6, Aggarwal Colony, district Bathinda has approached the VB and said the both accused were demanding Rs 30,000 for not registering a case under NDPS Act against him and his brother. A case under Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against both the accused at VB police station Bathinda and further investigation was under progress.

pulwama martyrs families get Rs 25 lakh

Chandigarh: In a unique campaign run by Kings XI Punjab, with the assistance of the Rotary Club for the CRPF jawans who lost their lives during the Pulwama terror attack, had their families present at the press meet today and were each given cheques of Rs 5 lakh by Kings XI Punjab. The five CRPF jawans who lost their lives were Jaimal Singh from Dharamkot, District Moga; Sukhjinder Singh from Tehsil Patti, District Taran Taran; Maninder Singh Attri from Dinanagar, District Gurdaspur; Kulwinder Singh from Tehsil Anandpur Sahib, District Rupnagar; and Tilak Raj from Kangra, Himachal Pradesh. Kings XI Head of Operations Anant Sarkaria said, “We are extremely grateful to have partnered with the Rotary Club of Chandigarh for this project who have helped us connect with the families of our brave jawans, who put their lives on the line every single day for us, and we as a team would like to stand behind and honour their sacrifice.”

chandigarh Police beefs up security

Chandigarh: Keeping in view the past experience wherein youngsters indulged in rash driving, hooliganism, drunken driving and eve teasing incidents during the festival of Holi, Chandigarh Police has made foolproof security arrangements in the city. Adequate number of police force i.e GOs-06, SHO/Insprs.-26, NGO/ORs-672, L/ORs-156 will be deployed in the city during the festival. Further from turn Market Sector-11/12 to Market Sector-10 (Geri Route) has been earmarked as “limited vehicle zone area”. Total 64 internal Nakas is being deployed at different places in the city. All the duties will be on ground at 9 am on March 21 in all markets, sectors, colonies villages around girls hostels, malls and crowded area for the proper maintenance of law & order and safety of the people, a senior police officer said.  He added that all area having girls’ Hostels/PGs will have special deployment of lady police force.

Haryana DGP directs cops to be on vigil on Holi

Chandigarh: In view of Holi festival, Haryana Director General of Police (DGP), Manoj Yadava has directed all the Commissioners of Police and district Superintendents of Police in the state to set up 24 hours special barricades for checking the cases of drunk driving during the festival.  The DGP has also directed the police personnel to ensure patrolling at public places such as bus stands, colleges and deputing police in adequate number to avoid eve teasing and any other incidents in the state.  He also urged the people to cooperate with police in maintaining law and order situation in the state and celebrate the festival in a befitting manner.

PGIMER Dept of community medicine awarded

Chandigarh: PGIMER Department of Community Medicine is awarded with Certificate of Merit in the Best Practice and Innovation in Community Medicine in the category of Community Medicine Practice at the 46th National Conference on Indian Association of Preventive and Social Medicine in Shimla, for the year 2018-19. Professor Madhu Gupta from the Dept. of Community Medicine had presented that an intersectoral collaboration between Chandigarh Administration and PGIMER was established in 2011, to improve maternal and child health indicators in the catchment area of Civil Hospital, Chandigarh, and to train the community medicine resident doctors. This innovative model of intersectoral collaboration was successful in significantly improving the maternal and child health indicators in the catchment area, he said.
