PU convocation on April 28

Chandigarh: Panjab University, Chandigarh, is all set to host 68th Annual Convocation scheduled for April 28 at the Gymnasium Hall, where Vice President of India and PU Chancellor M Venkaiah Naidu will be the chief guest. PU will confer Honoris Causa Degree to Dr Sudha N Murty, Trustee Infosys Foundation, Bengaluru (DLitt) and award of Vigyan Rattan to Dr K Sivan, Chairman, ISRO and Secretary, Department of Space, Bengaluru. Punjab Governor and UT Administrator VP Singh Badnore and Haryana Governor Satyadev Narayan Arya will also be present on the occasion.

Orientation Prog for principals, teachers held

Chandigarh: An orientation programme for school principals and mathematics, science and language teachers of UT-Chandigarh was organized by the CBSE in collaboration with UT Education Department at Delhi Public School, Sector 40-C, Chandigarh. As many as 302 participants, including Principals and teachers of various schools, attended the programme. The eminent guests at the orientation were CBSE chairperson Anita Karwal, UT Education Secretary BL Sharma, CBSE Director Academics Dr Joseph Emmanuel, and CBSE Trainings Rubinderjit Singh Brar, besides other key officials of the UT Department of Education.

13 held under Gambling Act

Chandigarh: Haryana Police on Monday arrested 13 persons on the charges of gambling at public place in separate incidents in Jind and Sirsa districts. Stake money of Rs 74,140 was also recovered from them.

Spokesperson said that in a first incident, Crime Investigation

Agency nabbed five persons from Narwana Nehru Park indulging in gambling, and seized Rs 57,800. In another incident, cops booked a satta player Balwan along with Rs 2140 from Bighana village in Jind. Another Police team booked seven persons from Rania Grain Market area in Sirsa district with stake money of Rs 14,200.

Tricity emerging as medical tourism destination

Chandigarh: With 39 daily flights from Chandigarh and three daily Shatabdi trains significantly improving the connectivity to the tricity of Chandigarh, Panchkula, and Mohali, lot of international patients are landing up in the tricity for medical treatment making it a favoured medical tourism destination for patients from country like Afghanistan, Yeman, Iraq and Nigeria, said Dr Gaurav Maheshwari, Senior Consultant and Head Surgical Gastroentrology and Dr Vinod Kumar, senior Consultant Orthopedics and Joint Replacement Surgery from Paras Super Specialty Hospital, Panchkula. Dr Gaurav said that approximately five lakh patients visited India on medical visa for treatment in 2017, and medical tourism industry in India is likely to touch 9 nine billion USD by 2020.

Chandigarh:  Biryani by Kilo (BBK) chain has launched its new Dine-in outlet in Ludhiana in Feroze Gandhi Market. BBK offers Murg Hyderabadi Biryani, Gosht Lucknowi Biryani, Prawns Biryani, Kathal Hyderabadi Biryani, Veg Hyderabadi biryani, BBK special Dum Nihari Gosht, Paneer Nawabi, Mutton & Veg Galouti kebabs, Phirni & Daastan-e-Gul in Desserts.  Vishal Jindal, Co-Founder, said Punjab is a very important market and they aim to build a network of 6-8 outlets across the state by next year.

Wasabi Restaurant opens in Chd

Chandigarh:  Tricity’s latest offering to the oriental food circuit –‘Wasabi’, opened in Sec 7 market on Madhya Marg.
