Nurses, paramedics on strike in B’ngir hosp

Balangir: The services were hit at the Bhima Bhoi Medical College Hospital here on Monday as paramedics and nurses launched a strike protesting against an alleged assault on an on-duty nurse. The nurses and paramedical staffs held their protest in front of the main gate of the hospital demanding arrest of the persons involved in the attack on the nurse last month. The agitators alleged that police have failed to take action against the accused persons despite repeated complaints. Notably, a staff nurse on duty was allegedly assaulted by relatives of a patient on June 26.

25 cattle die as truck overturns in Baleswar 

Baleswar: Over 25 cattle were killed and 35 others were injured when a truck carrying them overturned on NH-60 near Alalpur under the Jaleswar police limits in on Monday. The cattle were being illegally transported from Bhadrak to West Bengal, according to reports. The driver and helper of the truck fled from the spot after the accident. The Jaleswar police began investigation into the incident.

Farmer killed by bear in Nabarangpur

Nabarangpur: A farmer, Narasingha Jani, died in a bear attack at Haldi village under the Dabugam police station in Nabarangpur district on Monday. Jani had gone to his paddy filed to see the crops but did not return. His son went to the paddy field and saw him in a pool of blood. He was taken to the Dabugam Community Health Centre by an ambulance, but he died while undergoing treatment. Local forest officials said a compensation of Rs 10,000 would be provided to the deceased’s family once the postmortem report is received.

1 killed, another hurt as truck runs over bike

Bhawanipatna: A person was killed and another seriously injured when a truck mowed down a motorbike on the Turkel bridge of NH-16 under the Bhawanipatna Sadar police limits on Monday. The deceased bike rider was identified as Madan Behera, a resident of Turekela village of Balangir district. The injured pillion rider was Anirudh Meher of Bhalumunda village. Madan was riding his bike with Anirudh on the pillion. Anirudh was taken to the District Headquarters Hospital here.

50 kg ganja seized by Champua police

Champua: The Champua police seized 50 kg of ganja from a car (No. OR-02BM-3311) on Monday. Champua PS IIC Manoranjan Pradhan said that being tipped off, police were keeping a watch overnight. When the car was trying to cross the border of Jharkhand at Champua, the police stopped it and seized the contraband and arrested three persons and continued the investigation to collect more details.

BJD leader’s father dies in Joda

Champua: Jadumani Mahakud, father of BJP leader Ranjit Mahakud, died in his residence at Joda on Saturday. He was 83. He was a spiritual man and devoted himself to religious activities remaining detached from worldly affairs. People from all sections of life have mourned his death.
