62 gamblers held; Rs 44K cash seized

Baripada: The Mayurbhanj police on the direction of the district SP conducted raids on the gambling dens at different places in the district on Sunday night and arrested 62 persons. The police seized cash of Rs 43,960 and 28 mobile phones from their possession during the raids. As many as 16 cases were registered in this connection out of which five were registered in Baripada Sadar subdivision, one each in Betnoti subdivision and Udala subdivision and nine cases in Rairangpur subdivision.

Leopard spotted in Badmal again

Balangir: After a gap of a few months, a leopard was spotted again in the Badmal area in Balangir district, leading to panic among the locals. The Badmal area is spread over the Barni and Thikhali Reserve Forest areas. “The sighting of a leopard again in the area is a sign of healthy wildlife population. We are keeping an eye on the situation and have requested the villagers not to harm the leopard,” said DFO Sameer Satpathy.
