National player shot by stalker in Gurugram

Gurugram: A national-level taekwondo player, Sarita (26), was shot dead by her stalker, a wrestler, in the wee hours on Wednesday. The accused, Sombir, barged into her house at Bhoda Khurd village in the district and shot her after she refused to accept his “last and final” proposal. The victim’s family has accused the police of not taking seriously her repeated complaints of stalking by Sombir, a Jhajjar resident.  Sombir (26), a resident of Bamdola village, had been stalking the victim for over a year and had been pressurising her to marry him. She had complained to the police in August and an FIR was also registered, but the accused was not arrested. The accused barged into the victim’s house and asked her to marry him at gunpoint. He said he was asking for the last time if she would marry him. Thinking it was his usual threat, my daughter refused and he shot her, and fled, said victim’s mother Savitri.

2 women killed, 5 people injured in accident

Rohtak: Two women were killed and five others injured when a bus overturned after trying to avert a collision with a truck in Haryana’s Sonepat district. The accident occurred in the early hours on the highway near Biswamil Chowk near Rai village in Sonepat. The driver of the bus lost control over the vehicle when a truck appeared on the road near a turn. The bus overturned, leaving two women passengers, aged between 35 and 40, dead and five people injured,” a police official said. He said the injured were hospitalised, including one with serious injuries, who was referred to the PGIMS hospital at Rohtak.

17 Nov declared paid holiday for MC elections

Shimla: Himachal Government has declared November 17 as paid holiday within the meaning of Section 25 of Negotiable Instrument Act 188 (in case poll is held) in the areas of Municipal Council Solan and Nalagarh in district Solan and Rampur in district Shimla, where bye-election is scheduled to be held to fill up the vacant seat in the above mentioned Municipal Council. A spokesperson said, all government offices, boards, corporations, educational institutions and industrial establishments of the state under Industrial Disputes Act and shops will remain closed on this day in the above mentioned areas.

126 students visits Chandigarh ERSS

Chandigarh: During the celebration of Chandigarh Police Raising Day, 126 students of 8th to 10th standard visited Chandigarh ERSS (Emergency Response Support System) PSAP (Public Safety Access Point) at Police Headquarters Sector-9 here to know the practical working of newly commissioned Chandigarh Police Control. Roshan Lal, SP/Communication briefed the students about the unified Emergency number-112 to provide police, fire and medical services under one roof.  He advised the student and their faculty to create awareness of emergency number-112, women helpline no.1091 and senior citizen helpline no.1090 among the society so that public in distress may be provided emergency services within in short span of time.

Coffee Table Book, Video Clip on Bhakra Dam

Chandigarh: Sanjiv N. Sahai, Secretary, Govt. of India, Ministry of Power, released BBMB's Coffee Table Book on Energy Conservation at Shram Shakti Bhawan, New Delhi. This Coffee Table Book is compilation of amazing awarded paintings of the year 2018 of school children of class 4th to 9th of states of Punjab, Haryana and UT Chandigarh which are source of inspiration for energy conservation to the entire nation. On this occasion he also released the BBMB’s enlightening short video clip on Bhakra Dam, heart of northern India, serving in irrigation and power sector for the general public. Sahai appreciated BBMB for doing exemplary job in organizing the painting competition with record participation in the year 2018-19.

Pb Guv to inaugurate All India Textile Conference

Chandigarh: Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator VP Singh Badnore will inaugurate the 75th Platinum jubilee of the All India Textile Conference being organized by The Textile Association (INDIA) PHC Unit, Chandigarh on November 15 at Hotel ‘The Lalit’ IT Park. The conference Chairman, SN Sodhi said that the aim of organizing this conference is to discuss the future, challenges and innovations in the field of textile business. He said that all the aspects of textile industry including impact of global trade policies and treaties on Indian Textile business will be thoroughly discussed.

Punjab Govt signs MoU with Pumpkart

Chandigarh: A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed by Invest Punjab (Punjab Bureau of Investment Promotion), Government of Punjab, with Pumpkart - one of the largest Startup from Punjab. Sibin C, MD, Punjab Small Industries & Export Corporation (PSIEC) signed the MoU on behalf of Punjab government and K S Bhatia, Co Founder & CEO, Pumpkart on behalf of Pumpkart. Under the MoU, the Micro Small & Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) of Punjab will get the advantage of E Commerce to both promote and sell their products.  Under the MoU many concessions including discounts on the transaction fees will be given.

E-auction of fancy number begins

Chandigarh: The registration for participating in e-auction of vehicle registration numbers of new series “CH01-BZ” along with e-auction of left over fancy/special registration numbers of previous series “CH01-BY”, “CH01-BX”, “CH01-BW”, “CH01-BV”, “CH01-BU”, “CH01-BT” & “CH01-BS” (list enclosed) has started from November 12 (10:00 AM) and will continue till Nov 18 (5:00 PM). The e-auction/bidding will be started from November 19. The owner of the vehicle can register himself/herself on the National Transport website: https://vahan.parivahan.gov.in/fancy.

 

Retd. Engineers association donates Rs 7.51l

Chandigarh: Responding to the appeal of Punjab Government to extend all possible financial help to the needy affected by natural calamities in the state, a delegation of Punjab Irrigation Retd. Engineers Association led by its Founder and Life President KL Bhargava donated Rs 7.51 lakh to towards Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. Cheques worth Rs 7,51,700/- from the 110 members of the association on this count were presented to the Local Government Minister Brahm Mohindra by KL Bhargava, who was accompanied by senior office bearers of the association.

Blood donation camp at MCC organisesd

Chandigarh: Rajesh Kumar, Mayor of Chandigarh inaugurated a blood donation camp organized by Vishwas foundation in association with MCC and Traders Association Chandigarh. The camp was organized in the office premises of MCC, during which 91 officials donated blood.

Members of PSSSB held maiden meeting

Chandigarh: The recently appointed members of the Punjab Subordinate Service Selection Board (PSSSB) held the first meeting under the chairmanship of Raman Behl in the board conference room. The meeting proved to be extremely constructive as the fate of over four hundred candidates held in bay for nearly five years, was decided. The members unanimously decided to allot departments to the candidates shortlisted in the test for steno typists held in April 2016, informed  Raman Behl, Chairman Punjab Subordinate Service Selection Board.

Forest Hill Cyclothon held at Forest Hill Resort

Chandigarh: The Adventurous Cyclothon organized for the very first time at Forest Hill Resort in association with Bigrox Media & Citywoofer received huge response with cycling enthusiasts from the age of 8 to 70 years participating in the event. Over 100 participants on MTB cycles took part in the cyclothon along Forest trails. Participants from various cycling clubs Cyclegiri, CATS, Chd Cycling club graced the occasion. Lt. Col. BS Sandhu, President - Forest Hill Golf & Country Club said that people from all walks of life including doctors, lawyers, air force personnel to name a few pedaled their way into greenery.
