Sex racket unearthed; seven held in Jajpur
Jajpur: Police on Monday arrested seven persons, including two sex workers, in a rented house at Jaraka under the Dharmasala police station on the charges of running a brothel, said Dharmasala PS IIC Saroj Kumar Sahoo. The arrested persons were identified as Rabindra Sahoo, Balaram Sahoo, Somyashree Jena, Mahendra Mallick and Liku Mallick. Both the sex workers were sent to a short stay home. The arrested persons were produced by police in court, which rejected their bail applications and remanded them to jail custody.
Chikiti Mahavidyalaya gets ‘B' Grade by NAAC
Brahmapur: The Chikiti Mahavidyalaya, Ganjam, has been accredited with ‘B’ Grade by the NAAC. A NAAC peer team consisting of former Kuvempu University Vice-Chancellor Prof TR Manjunath, DD University Commerce Department Prof Ajeya K Gupta and Maitrey College Principal Dr Haritma Chopra visited the college recently and submitted the report on the basis of their observation. College Principal Dr Bichitra Patnaik, IQAC Coordinator Dr Bhabani Prasad Panda, NAAC Coordinator Dasaratha Rout and Head Narasingh Patnaik expressed their satisfaction. MLA and College Governing Body President Usha Devi congratulated all stakeholders over the recognition for a second time.
NIFTian Suhrud to pursue MIM in ESCP Europe
Brahmapur: Suhrud Panigrahi of Brahmapur joined the ESCP Europe in Paris, the oldest University in the world offering Masters in Management (MIM) degree on Monday. Suhrud was first Odia to be awarded as the Student of The Year in 1997 in Bachelor of Fashion Technology (B.F.Tech) from National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Mumbai. Son of the renowned stage anchor Hrusikesh Panigrahi and Sudipta Panigrahi, Panigrahi has made it possible to join the globally ninth ranking university ESCP Europe at Paris to pursue MIM.
Mobile veterinary unit rolled out
Dhamra: The Adani Foundation with the technical guidance of the District Veterinary Officer and gram panchayats of its railway corridor area has rolled out a mobile veterinary unit service at Jamujodi and Rajanagar panchayats. The flag up ceremony was attended by Jamujodi Sarpanch Jharana Biswal, Rajanagar Sarpanch Sanatan Barik and District Veterinary Surgeon Dr Rajesh Kumar Kuanr. The customised two-wheeler equipped with medicine and vaccine will create awareness on livestock care and provide basic livestock health care services. The vehicle will cover all 16 villages of these panchayats in three months.
