Man killed as pickup van hits his bike in Boudh
Boudh: A person died when a pickup van hit the motorcycle he was riding on the Dhalpur-Purunakatak road in Boudh district on Sunday. He was identified as Hemant Rajsingh of Rath Sahi in Purunakatak. He was heading towards Udaypur village. The van’s driver fled the spot with the vehicle. Police recovered the body and sent it for postmortem. Efforts were on to trace the van and its driver.
TRB Mines bags Mining Innovation Award
Bhubaneswar: The TRB Iron Ore Mines of Jindal Steel and Power Limited (JSPL) won the Mining Innovation Award for its efforts to ensure ecological balance in an environmentally sensitive Tensa valley. The award was presented by The Indian Mining and Engineering Journal at a seminar held at Hosapete, Karnataka on Friday. TRB VP (Mines) Pramod Kumar Patra received the award. JSPL MD VR Sharma congratulated the team at Tensa.
NTPC joins plastic-free movement with vendors
Talcher: To sensitise on ‘No plastic use’ during the ongoing “Swachhata Hi Seva” campaign, the NTPC Talcher Kaniha reached out to local shops and vendor around the plant area on Saturday. Through the campaign, the NTPC is taking steady measures to increase awareness against plastic pollution in Kaniha. A team of NTPC collectively organised a pamphlet and cotton bag distribution drive to all grocery, medical shops and fruit vendors in order to ensure steady implementation of the ban against plastic.
State-level football tourney kicks off in D’nal
Dhenkanal: A State-level football tournament organised by the Dhenkanal District Athletic Association began at Dhenkanal Stadium ground on Saturday. As many as 16 teams from Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Sambalpur, Bhanjanagar, Angul, Rourkela, Baripada, Nayagarh, Baragarh, Jhadkhand and Bihar have participated in the tournament. The final match would be held October 5.
