50-seat NCC unit for Dhabaleswar College 

Athagarh: A fifty-seat NCC unit of senior division Army was allotted to the Sri Sri Dhabaleswar College of Science and Technology, Bali here from this academic year. A letter in this regard was served to the college Principal by Lt Col Sanjeev Dewan of 01 Odisha Battalion NCC. This year, 11 boys and six girl cadets would be enrolled from Plus Three. For next two years, similar numbers of cadets would be enrolled, said Principal Sunilima Satpathy. Teaching staff Niranjan Rout was appointed as Care Taking Officer of the new NCC unit.

Paradip College Reader dies of cardiac arrest 

Paradip: Senior Reader of Political Science of Paradip College Dr Bibhuti Ranjan Tripathy died of cardiac arrest on Tuesday. He was 54 and is survived by his wife Sanjukta Dash and a son. The sudden and untimely demise of Tripathy has cast a pall of gloom in the port town. Paradip Municipality Chairman Basant Biswal and Executive Officer Dillip Kumar Mohanty, Paradip Ladies’ Club president Subhalaxmi Roy, GKS secretary Ravi Das, Paradip Press Media president Sasanka Acharya, advocate RK Jena, among others, paid their tributes to the departed teacher.

Sex racket busted in Bhadrak; 2 arrested

Bhadrak: The Basudevpur police busted a sex racket operating at a rented house near Betada Bazaar here on Wednesday night and arrested two persons in this connection besides rescuing a woman. Three others, including a woman, fled from the spot. Investigation into the matter was underway. Locals had been alleging about the flesh trade at the house since long. Acting on a tipoff, a police team raided the house.

Elephant calf found dead in S’garh forest

Rourkela: A carcass of an elephant calf was found at the Dhumagarh forest under the Biramitrapur Range in Sundargarh district on Thursday. Four to five adult elephants had guarded the carcass, which was spotted by locals. Being informed, forest officials reached the spot and recovered it. “It appears that the calf died after sustaining injuries during a fight between adult elephants on Wednesday night. The carcass will be buried after autopsy,” a forest official said.
