Industries must focus on using waste: Ravi Kumar

K Ravi Kumar, secretary, Department of Industry, Government of Jharkhand addressing at the 3rd CII Jharkhand Green Conclave, said that industries should focus on using the waste generated by itself as inputs for production. “Industrialisation is inevitable for the development of a nation, however, we should not develop at the cost of the environment”, said Kumar.

During his address, Kumar congratulated CII for organising the conclave and making it a part of CII’s flagship event calendar. “Our government has given a special focus to environmental sustainability”, stated Secretary, Department of Industry, Government of Jharkhand.

  He said that waste management is not only essential from a public welfare perspective but can also contribute to the state’s economic growth if the recycling industry is promoted alongside eco-industrial production.

He emphasized on the fact that it is not waste until it is wasted. Kumar also stated that in an effort to promote green products, the State Government is organising Bamboo Artisans Conclave 2019 on 18-19 September 2019 at Dumka which will witness international buyers from more than half a dozen countries like Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Norway, Sri Lanka, and Bhutan. He requested the industry participants to attend the conclave and make it successful. Addressing the gathering, Neeraj Kant, chairman, CII Jharkhand State Council and managing director, The Indian Steel & Wire Products Limited said that Industry should see undertaking green initiatives as opportunity rather than additional cost. Green Industrialisation offers huge opportunities for entrepreneurship development.

Creating green industries that provide different types of environmental goods and services and contribute towards reducing negative environmental impacts is crucial at this juncture of globalization. He opined that consciousness and commitment towards environmental sustainability is more important than mere compliance to Government norms.Captain Dhananjay Mishra, convener, CII Jharkhand Environmental Sustainability Panel & Senior General Manager (JTO), JUSCO said that industry and society plays a vital role in Building a Green Eco system and significant initiatives needs to be taken to support the issue.A combined approach towards the greener tomorrow is the need of the hour and strong and sustainable Green Eco system can be the foundation of the green manufacturing and greener tomorrow.

The 3rd CII Jharkhand Green Conclave had particular focus on Government Initiatives towards Sustainable Jharkhand, Roadmap to a Smart and Sustainable City and Green Initiatives: The Way Foward. Over 150 delegates participated in this important forum.
