Raipur district Collector Dr. S. Bharatidasan directed all the industrial units of the district to take up the works for water conservation and augmentation of ground water level on priority basis to avoid any water crisis.
Holding a meeting of managers of the industrial units at district collectorate conference hall, Bharatidasan sought their active participation in ‘Jal Shakti’ drive in other parts of Raipur district also.
Government of India in first phase has selected 257 places across the country where the groundwater level has depleted or about to deplete. Dharsinwa of Raipur district and Gurur block of Balod districts are in the list.
During the drive from July 1 to September 15, different activities are to be organized for water conservation and protection through community participation.
Raipur collector said as per directives of the Centre and state government, especially focusing Dharsinwa block, with cooperation of local people, a special drive is being organized under the theme ‘Store Water – Better Tomorrow.’
The main aim is to recharge ground water, increase availability of water and enhance irrigation facilities. To achieve it, water conservation and water harvesting works, traditional water structures and pond renovation, works under watershed, recharging bore well, other structures and their reuse, along with extensive plantation works, will be prominently undertaken.
