The Integrated Security System (ISS) would be implemented in six major railway stations in Odisha soon to upgrade the security measures for safety of passengers, said DGP BK Sharma presiding over the 2nd quarterly meeting of the State-level Security Committee for Railways here on Tuesday.

The ISS aims to strengthen security at railway stations by installing close circuit television (CCTV) cameras, baggage scanners and other measures.

“Efforts are underway to ensure that both GRP and RPF work in a coordinated manner and a lot of key issues were discussed at the meeting. CCTV cameras would be installed in such a manner so as to cover and keep maximum areas under surveillance,” said Sharma.

The DGP further said extra precaution would be taken for the protection of railway property and passengers in Leftwing extremism-affected areas in the State as there were some incidents of violence in 2017.

“Focus would also be laid to check unauthorised entry in railway stations. Hence, antecedent verification of vendors would be conducted shortly in the State,” Sharma added. Railways ADG Pranabindu Acharya said, railway stations would now require no objection certificates from the Fire Services department which would conduct fire safety audits.

“To thwart any terrorist attack, railways is coming up with its own integrated security system which would be implemented in major and busy railway stations across the country,” said Acharya.
