Jharkhand’s Additional Chief Electoral Officer, Manish Ranjan has achieved an extraordinary feat of securing more than 100 per cent in a course on Public Affairs in the University of California, Berkeley.
The 2002-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer from Jharkhand cadre scored 104.44 per cent in the UC Berkeley course. Ranjan took to the social media to share his achievement with his friends and followers. “Getting 107.5 out of 100 in the final examination in Inferential Statistics by none other than Prof. Rucker Johnson and 2.2 out of 2 in Innovation, Strategy and Leadership by Prof. Larry Magid is an achievement dedicated to my father, my inspiration,†Ranjan posted on Facebook.
The official Twitter handle of IAS Association also lauded Ranjan for his achievement. “Some IAS officers excel beyond what many will consider impossible. Manish Ranjan, IAS from Jharkhand, scored more than 100% in Statistics course at UC Berkeley!! #Awesome #BeatThat #IAS,†it tweeted.
Ranjan, who studied Bachelors in Sociology and Economics from the Hindu College under Delhi University in 1996, is pursuing Masters in Public Affairs from UC Berkeley. According to the official website of the University, the one-year course that Ranjan is pursuing is an advanced course in Public Policy. His subject here is Econometrics, which is use of advanced statistics in economics and public policy. This course specializes in evidence based policy framing keeping in view the grass root realities.
After completing his graduation from Delhi, Ranjan pursued an MBA as well as a Post Graduate Diploma in Rural Management from Institute of Rural Management (IRMA). In 2002, he received a Director’s Gold Medal for being the first in terms of merit in the 2002 IAS batch. Ranjan has served in Pakur, Hazaribag, Deoghar, Garhwa and Khunti in Jharkhand. He has also served as key positions in the Industry Department, and Education, Health and Labour departments.
Ranjan has a deeper Jharkhand connection. Not only has he worked in the State as an IAS officer for over a decade, but he also grew up in the Maoist-hit Latehar district. He completed his schooling from the prestigious Netarhat School in Latehar. His current course in California, however, is not his first foreign course. In 2016, Ranjan received Chevening fellowship and studied in University of Oxford. He has also authored several books on Management and Aptitude Tests.
