A senior prison official escaped a bid on his life when some unidentified criminals shot at him at his official residence in Etawah on Wednesday.
Superintendent of Etawah District Jail, Raj Kishore Singh, told media persons in Etawah that two masked assailants fired with country-made pistols at deputy jailer HS Zafri at his residence in the jail premises as he came out to go to his office around 10:45 am.
Luckily, he said, the shots missed the deputy jailer and the hitmen fled the scene.
The deputy jailer suspects that dreaded criminal of Mainpuri, Vishram Singh Yadav, could be behind the attack.
Yadav was released from the Etawah jail 20 days back and he had threatened to kill Zafri.
An FIR was registered in this connection at Civil Lines police station and the case is being investigated.
This was the second attempt on the life of the deputy jailer. Earlier in 2003, a similar attack was made on his life near Mathura district jail, but he escaped without injury.
