Jakhar condemns Priyanka’s detention in UP

Saturday, 20 July 2019 | PNS | Chandigarh

Senior Congress leader Sunil Jakhar on Friday slammed the BJP-led Uttar Pradesh Government for detaining AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi on her way to meet the families who were affected by firing over a land dispute on July 17 in Sonbhadra.

He said that Priyanka was scheduled to visit the place of the incident where 10 people were killed in the firing and 19 were injured. “She only wanted to meet the affected families alone, whose members have been mercilessly shot dead, a boy who was also shot at, is lying in the hospital. Is it an offence to share grief of the families who lost their members due to atrocities that lit large in the state ruled by the BJP headed by Yogi Adityanath,” he asked.

By preventing Priyanka Gandhi from meeting the affected families to convey condolence and express solidarity, BJP has once again exposed its fears that haunt the saffron party over people-centric activities of Gandhi family, Jakhar said.

He said that the BJP, that has got absolute power for second time in New Delhi, was pursuing dictatorial means to crush voice of the people. “UP government has failed in controlling crimes.

The policies of political intolerance can be fatal for any democratic nation. Congress can’t tolerate killing of human rights and will fight to safeguard constitutional rights of the people,” he added.
