Javadekar allots Rs 2,675 cr under CAMPA

Friday, 30 August 2019 | PNS | Dehradun

The Union minister of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, Prakash Javadekar has approved Rs 2675 crore budget under Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority (CAMPA) for Uttarakhand.

The Union minister handed a cross cheque to the State’s Forest and Wildlife minister Harak Singh Rawat at a meeting of forest ministers held by the ministry in the national Capital on Thursday. CAMPA fund is used for increasing forest area, water conservation in forest area and improvement of degraded land in forest areas.

Rawat requested Javadekar that due to it being a mountainous and forest state, Uttarakhand has the authority for forest land transfer of up to one hectare which should be increased to five hectare.  This will enable effective implementation of development works in the state.

He also said that as in the case of Himachal Pradesh, on the basis of the technical report of the Forest Research Institute (FRI) the felling of over-matured trees at altitudes above 1000 metres should be allowed in Uttarakhand so that new trees can be planted in their place.  Rawat further said that only by bringing about a total ban on production of all items made from single use plastic will the use of such items be eradicated. Earlier, Rawat told Javadekar that as expected by the Prime Minister, the use of single use plastic has been curtailed considerably in the state. Efforts have been made to increase and improve the forest area. Only about 29 per cent of the state’s geographical area is used for agriculture and human settlement while rest of the area is under forest cover.
