Jewellery worth Rs 60 L and cash looted in broad daylight

Tuesday, 08 October 2019 | PNS | DEHRADUN

Another daylight armed robbery in the provisional Capital of Uttarakhand has exposed the level of security arrangements in Dehradun city. After the high-profile armed robbery case at Mussoorie Road in the month of September, two bike riders blatantly robbed a jeweller in Premnagar on Monday. According to the victim, the jewellery looted is up to Rs 60 lakh in value in approximately Rs 4 lakh in cash was also looted.

Dehradun Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Arun Mohan Joshi said, “Teams have been formed and we are looking out for the suspects, the motorbike has already been identified.

The pickets and patrol units have been alerted to lookout for the bike and suspects. We are working on all aspects of the case, from CCTV footage to questioning. We are also verifying the whereabouts of people who had earlier been involved in such cases to narrow down the suspects.”

According to the owner of Dev Jewellers, the majority of the items that the robbers took with them were orders he had gotten for few upcoming marriages.

He also stated that the robbers first came under the pretext of giving some orders and carried out a reconnaissance of the shop.

They later came at around 3:30 PM and looted the place at gun point. They also shot one round to threaten the owner.

The bullet hit a glass display at the shop. According to officials, the accused also took Digital Video Recorder with them. However, they have been spotted on CCTV footage and the motorbike has been identified.

It is pertinent to mention here that on April 15 earlier this year, another armed robbery was reported at Nehru Colony police station wherein three robbers arrived at the shop riding on a motorbike and looted Saraswati Jewellers at gun point.

The Dehradun police have still not been able to work out that case and have failed in catching the accused.
