JHASA, MGNREGA workers end agitation

The members of Jharkhand Administrative Service Association (JHASA) and MGREGA workers of the State today ended their agitation in support of their various demands after respective meetings with Chief Minister Raghubar Das. The MGNREGA workers were agitating for more than two months demanding pay hike, equal work equal wages etc.

A delegation of MGNREGA workers under Jharkhand State MGNREGA Workers Union (JSMWU) today met Chief Minister Raghubar Das to talk about their grievances.

Speaking on the issue JSMWU Secretary John Peter Bage said, the State government has assured that it will increase the workers’ wages. If the Central funds allocated will not be sufficient, the government will provide them wages from the share of the State government.

He said that the State government declined to regularize them but assured that after three months it will constitute a bilateral committee in which members of workers’ union and another side government will be included to examine the matter. Commenting on the other facilities provided by the State government, Bage said, “MGNREGA workers can work up to 60 years of their age. They will get facility of health scheme- Ayushman Bharat Yojna and the expenses of registration under the scheme will be given by the government. The government also said that the workers will get facility of life insurance of Rs. Five lakh and in cases of accidents the workers will get Rs 50,000 in case of serious accident and in case of minor accident the worker will get Rs 25,000.”

During the meeting Additional Chief Secretary, Department of Personal, KK Khandelwal, Principal Secretary, Rural Development Department, Avinash Kumar, Principal Secretary to the CM, Sunil Kumar Barnwal, General Secretary, Bhartiya Majdoor Sangh, Bindeshwari Prasad, president JSMWU, Anirudh Pandey were also present. 

Meanwhile, Jharkhand Administrative Service Association (JHASA) members have also ended their agitation as CM, Raghubar Das accepted almost all of their demands after a meeting.

Speaking on the issue JHASA president Ram Kumar Sinha said, “Almost all the demand of the Association has been accepted by the State government and for few demands the government has sought one month time. So the Association ended the agitation.”

Before the development a delegation of JHASA met the CM. To consider demand of the Association it was decided to constitute a committee under the chairmanship of the Development Commissioner. The committee will include Additional Chief Secretary Finance and Additional Chief Secretary, Personnel, Administrative Reforms and Official Language Department. The committee has given opportunity to the Association to put forward their grievances.

Chief Secretary Sudheer Tripathi, Additional CS Finance, Sukhdev Singh, Additional CS, Department of Personnel KK Khandelwal, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Sunil Kumar Barnwal and JHASA president, Ram Kumar Sinha, General Secretary Jitendra Prasad, Vice President, Arvind were present during the meeting.
