Sunday, 17 February 2019 | PNS | Ranchi

Jharkhand Indian Administrative Officers Wives Association (JIAOSWA) on Saturday announced that the association will bear the educational expenses of Pulwama attack martyr Vijay Soreng’s five children. The announcement was made on the occasion of ‘Run against Cancer’ a programme organized by JIAOSWA in an attempt to increase awareness about cancer.

The association also announced that the registration fee collected from the run will also be donated to the aggrieved family.

The run, organized jointly by the JIASOWA and Ranchi District Administration, started from Raj Bhawan and ended at Morhabadi ground, in which thousands of citizens participated.

While flagging off the run Governor, Droupadi Murmu paid tribute to martyred soldier Vijay’s Soreng and said awareness about cancer can counter the disease. “Women are getting more in the grip of cancer day by day. This cancer spreads like a demon. Due to not taking proper care of the body, cancer is becoming a bigger facet at present,” she added. Murmu also thanked JIASOWA to organize the programme to sensitise people about cancer.

Speaking on the occasion Chief Minister, Raghubar Das said, “There is no shortage of disease in the country and neither of the patients. Our care, routine and negligence towards health invite these diseases. Cancer is spreading fast all over the world. In this case awareness is necessary. Such programmes should be organised so that people are aware of their health.”

Giving thrust on awareness about the disease, Das said, “Due to lack of the awareness the poor people of the State are in the grip of disease. Social organizations, including JIAOSWA, should pay attention to this. The State Government is also working on its own level.” While thanking participants in the competition he said that youths will definitely communicate awareness among the people.

JIASWOA Richa Sanchita, said that it is an attempt to make people aware about cancer. “The number of cancer patients among women of Jharkhand is getting much more. It is being attempted through the marathon so that women of the house could be screened from time to time to prevent cancer from Ranchi and Jharkhand,” she added.

The association also launched a website on the occasion and organised a blood donation camp.
