JJP leader Dushyant Chautala to contest from Hisar constituency

Friday, 19 April 2019 | PNS | Chandigarh

Jannayak Janta Party leader Dushyant Chautala will seek re-election from Hisar Lok Sabha constituency.

The JJP, which is contesting the Lok Sabha polls in alliance with Aam Aadmi Party in Haryana, announced four party candidates on Thursday. Dushyant, who was the youngest MP in the 16th Lok Sabha in 2014, will again contest from the Hisar parliamentary seat in 2019 polls. Apart from him, the JJP has fielded young candidates namely Nirmal Singh Malhadi from Sirsa constituency (reserved), Pradeep Deswal from Rohtak and Swati Yadav from Bhiwani-Mahendergarh constituency.

The candidates were announced during a joint press conference of JJP and AAP held in New Delhi. Senior AAP leader Gopal Rai, JJP leader Dushyant Chautala, Haryana AAP chief Naveen Jaihind and state JJP chief Nishan Singh were present on the occasion.

The AAP will contest on Faridabad, Karnal and Ambala (reserved) Lok Sabha seats while the JJP will contest on other seven seats in the state.

AAP leader Gopal Rai said that the AAP will announce its candidates on Friday.

Dushyant said that he will be seeking mandate for the second term based on the works done in Hisar constituency during the last five years.

Though the Congress is yet to name its candidate from Hisar, the ruling BJP has fielded Haryana IAS officer Brijendra Singh, 46, who is the son of Union Steel Minister Birender Singh, a prominent Jat leader.

Notably, despite of strong Modi wave that had enabled the BJP to win 7 out of 10 Lok Sabha seats in Haryana in 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Dushyant Chautala, representing the fourth generation of former Deputy Prime Minister Devi Lal had defeated BJP-HJC candidate Kuldeep Bishnoi to become the youngest ever elected MP to the Lok Sabha.

Contesting on Indian National Lok Dal’s ticket at that time, Dushyant had won by a margin of 31,847 votes, due to extreme polarisation of the Jats in favour of the INLD.

Dushyant will be contesting on JJP’s ticket this time. The JJP, a splinter group of Indian National Lok Dal was formed in December last year by Ajay Chautala and his two sons, Dushyant and Digvijay. Ajay is elder son of INLD’s chief OP Chautala.

According to the JJP release, its Sirsa candidate Nirmal Singh Malhadi, 37, belongs to a landless family in Malhadi village in Sirsa. He had unsuccessfully contested the 2014 Haryana assembly polls on Haryana Lokhit party ticket from the Kalanwali seat.

JJP’s Rohtak nominee Pradeep Deswal, 32 is Indian National Students Organisation (INSO) state president and a close confidant of Dushyant Chautala.

Deswal is a student leader and has also been associated with social work, as per the party release.

Swati Yadav, 30, has more than 10 years of experience in the field of medical and telecommunication sectors. She holds an MBA degree from Georgia Institute of Technology in the US. Her father, Satyavir Yadav is party's Mahendergarh district chief, the party stated.

No alliance with Congress in Haryana: AAP

The AAP on Thursday said there will be no alliance with the Congress in Haryana after the grand old party refused to have a tie-up in any other state apart from Delhi.

Haryana state party incharge Naveen Jaihind on Thursday said talks over alliance in Haryana in a seat-sharing formula of 6:3:1 were held between senior AAP leader Sanjay Singh and Congress general secretary incharge of Haryana Ghulam Nabi Azad.
