JNU event pre-planned: Chargesheet

Friday, 18 January 2019 | GAYATHRI MANI | NEW DELHI

In yet another revelation in the infamous controversial Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) sedition case, the chargesheet  filed before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) of Patiala House courts Deepak Sehrawat, shows that the whole event was pre-planned. Most interestingly, while seeking permission from the administration, only Umar Khalid, one of the chargesheeted persons had signed the letter and rest of all the students’ signature including Anirban Bhattacharya was found to be forged. The chargesheet will be considered by the CMM on January 19.

“As per the chargesheet which is based on video of protest and various phones and emails, prior to the event it seemed whole program was pre-planned to make noise and all. It has also been found that there was a presence of a lot of outsiders from Jammu and Kashmir who are identifiable but untraceable,” said a source working on the case.

Also, as per the chargesheet and forensic report, “While seeking permission from the administration of JNU to conduct the program, it has been found that only Umar Khalid and one more student signed and the remaining students including Anirban Bhattacharya's (one of the main accused in the case )  signature is fake.

Further, Mujeeb Hussain Gatto, Acquub Hussain, Raieed Rasood and Umar Gul were outsiders living at South east Delhi’s Jamia Nagar. They were found constantly in contact with Umar Khalid on 9th February.  These were also found raising anti-national slogans such “Go India, Go Back”, "Bharat Tere Tukde Honge".

Gul, Gatto, Hussain, Khalid and Raieed Rasood and Acquib were also seen raising slogans such as 'Hum Kya Chahte Azadi , hum leke rahenge azadi, Kashmir Humaa chhor do'.

Further after the analysis of emails of the students and the main accused persons in the case, “It is clear from these E-mail that Anirban Bhattarcharya is speaking about, “Azadi of Kashimr from Occupation India’ well before the programme to commemorate the execution Afzal Guru. The slogans raised by both these persons clearly go to show that they are trying to excite disaffection towards the idea of India and by advocation the terrorist acts committed by Afzal guru and Maqboot Bhat by glamoruizing them and by calling them martyrs and freedom fighters of Kashmir.

They were trying to incite hatred contempt and disaffection towards the government established by Law. The slogans like ‘Bharat tere tukde honge, inshaallah, inshaallah and Bharat ki Barbadi, Jung Rahegi' clearly nefarious and sinister objectives of this voice,” read the charge sheet.

On 9 February, 2016 the JNU Student Union (JNUSU) organized an event to protest against the hanging of parliament attack convict Afzal Guru. At the event the student leaders of Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarti Parishad (ABVP) started protest against the left leaned student union program, clash occurred between the students and anti-national slogans raised on the moment.

After that the then JNUSU president Kanhaiya Kumar, Umar Khalid and Anirban Bhattacharya and others were arrested under IPC Act 124A Sedition charges.
