Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik launched distribution of assistances to farmers of Ganjam district under the KALIA scheme at a massive rally held at Rangelilunda on Sunday.  Besides, he laid foundation-stone for 48 development projects worth Rs 716 crore and inaugurated 231 new projects at different places. More than 1 lakh farmers from 22 blocks attended the farmers’ convention.

The Chief Minister said farmers would get Rs 5,000 for Kharif crop and Rs 5,000 for Rabi crop. “The KALIA scheme will certainly help farmers to improve their agricultural activities and livelihood and show a new path to the entire nation,” said Patnaik. Besides, farmers can take loans without any interest so that their repayment could be much smoother and hassle free, he said

Farmers, including small and marginal farmers, sharecroppers and farming labourers, will get benefit from the scheme.

Among others, three Ministers from the district, BJD district president and Gopalpur MLA Dr Pradeep Kumar Panigrahi and State Planning Board member Rama Chandra Panda and a host of senior Government officers, including Cooperation Secretary Kishan Kumar, RDC, district Collector, DIG and the SP, were present.

Political observers consider the CM visit very crucial for the BJD ahead of general elections. Fifty platoons of security personnel were deployed to prevent any untoward incident.
