Health and Family Welfare Minister Naba Kishore Das on Saturday informed the State Assembly that the Government has delisted the Bhubaneswar-based Kalinga Hospital from the panel of the medicals providing treatment under the Odisha State Treatment Fund (OSTF).
The Government took the action following an inquiry into the allegation of Opposition Chief Whip Mohan Charan Majhi that the hospital had misbehaved with him while he had approached its authorities to release a dead body on June 29. Speaker Surjya Narayan Patro had also asked him to submit a reply in this regard.
“A four-member committee conducted an inquiry into the allegation. On the basis of its report, action has been initiated against the hospital,” said the Minister. Besides, the Director of the Medical Education and Training has been asked to conduct an inquiry and submit a report as to which private hospitals are not following the guidelines of the Odisha State Treatment Fund.
It may be noted that the Kalinga Hospital had reportedly detained the body of one Sachin Barik of Naradpur village in Keonjhar district, who died while undergoing treatment at the hospital, for a few hours after family members failed to pay the pending dues.
