Soon after rejoining the Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday, former chief minister Kalyan Singh took up the Ram temple issue, asking all parties to clarify their stands on Ram Janmabhoomi.
“I don’t want to do politics over a religious issue as the construction of Ram temple is a matter of faith. But all political parties should clarify their stands on the construction of Ram temple for the people to know,” he said.
Babri mosque was demolished on 1992 when Kalyan Singh was the chief minister of UP and he was among top BJP leaders against whom a charge-sheet was filed by the CBI for conspiring to demolish the disputed structure at Ayodhya.
Talking to media persons at his residence in Lucknow on Monday, the former Governor of Rajasthan clearly said that he would not contest any election now.
“I have contested many elections but now I will only work for the party,” he said.
Singh appreciated both Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and BJP state chief Swatantra Dev Singh for their respective roles.
“Yogi Adityanath’s term could be termed as a golden period, as the government is working for the welfare of every citizen in the state. The Chief Minister himself is working tirelessly for the poor,” Singh said.
“Similarly, the BJP state president too is working to strengthen the party at the grassroots level,” Singh said.
