Kidnapper held, victim with stab wounds hospitalised

The Police Control Room (PCR) unit of Delhi Police  nabbed a 22-year-old kidnapper red-handed in Delhi’s Rohini area on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday. Police said the accused is also found involved in six cases of robbery, snatching and Arms Act registered across the national Capital.

The accused has been identified as Qasim, a resident of Delhi’s Kirari area. According to Sharat Kumar Sinha, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), PCR, around 1.08 am on Wednesday, a PCR call was received in which the caller stated that about 08.30 pm, his brother Sunny had gone to market on his Apache bike but had not returned yet.

“Later , a call was received from the accused persons demanding Rs 5,000 for the release of Sunny . The accused also directed them to come at  Sector 20, Rohini with the ransom money,” said the DCP.

“Acting on the call a team on Multi Purpose Vehicle (MPV) along with the complainant immediately started searching for Sunny and accused persons. When they reached near Sector 20 in Rohini, the police team saw the bike of Sunny. The police team immediately started looking for the victim in the nearby areas and managed to trace the him in the custody of accused persons in a secluded vacant plot,” said the DCP.

“On seeing the police team, the accused persons tried to escape but Qasim was nabbed by the police team while another accused managed to flee. Victim was found injured with multiple stab wounds on his body. He was taken to hospital where he is undergoing treatment and is said to be in stable condition,” said the DCP.

“The victim, Sunny, told police that the duo accused Qasim and Mohit were known to him and they had called him in Sector 20, Rohini. Later the accused took him near the deserted plot in Sector 20, where they assaulted Sunny by hitting him with brick on his face and stabbing him with a blunt weapon,” said the DCP.

“The accused also robbed the victim of cash about Rs 4,000 as well as his mobile phone. The accused persons wanted more money and made ransom calls from his phone to his family members. The accused has been handed over to Aman Vihar Police Station for further action,” the DCP added.
