The Kisan Mela organised by the GB Pant University of Agriculture and Technology (GBPUAT) will be inaugurated by chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat on March 7 in Pantnagar.
The State’s Agriculture and Horticulture minister Subodh Uniyal will also present on the occasion as special guest.
After inauguration of the fair at 11 AM, the GBPUAT vice chancellor professor Tej Pratap and university’s director of Extension Education, YPS Dabas will take Rawat and Uniyal to the various stalls put up by various colleges and other institutions as part of the horticulture exhibition.
According to the university officials, a special discount of 40 to 60 per cent will be available on books published in Hindi for farmers by the university on subjects including agriculture, animal husbandry, home science and other topics.
Further, the farmer will also be able to view special exhibit of high yield varieties of the major Rabi crops including wheat, mustard, peas and others grown by the crop research centre and vegetables grown by the vegetable research centre.
In addition to this, the farmers will also be facilitated free tours of various centres of the university including the mushroom research and development centre, medicinal and aromatic plants research and development centre, seed production centre, model flower research centre, horticulture research centre, agro-forestry research centre, fishery research centre, the university farm and educational dairy farm.
