L-G Baijal chairs 10th meet of task force on women safety

Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal on Friday, chaired the 10th meeting of the 'Task Force on Women Safety Issues' at Raj Niwas in national Capital.  L-G during the meeting, directed PWD, MCDs and other concerned agencies that in all identified dark spots, streetlights should be installed.

The meeting was attended by Chairperson, Delhi Commission for Women, Delhi Commissioner of Police, Principle Secretary (Law and Justice), Commissioner (SDMC), Special Commissioner of Police (Women Safety), Secretary, NDMC, Secretary (Social Welfare), Director (Education) and Member Secretary (DSLSA).

"NGO 'Safetipin' presented a detailed report on various parameters like dark spots, visibility, walk paths and public transport to improve the safety of women in Delhi," said an official.

"It was informed by 'Safetipin' that they have resurveyed the areas covered by them earlier in 2016 in 2019 along with new areas in which they have covered 3077 KMs and collected one lakh plus images," said the official.

"It was also apprised to L-G that in the survey of 2016, 'Safetipin' had identified 7,438 darks spots while in its resurvey in 2019 only 2,780 darks spots have been identified," said the official.

"L-G was further informed about the various women safety initiatives taken by Delhi Police such as 15 All Women police control room (PCR) Multi-purpose vehicles (MPVs), 30 Parakram Vans in vulnerable areas, 259 women beat police officers on bicycles and motorcycles, 312 Women Police Officers deployed on 196 PCR Vans, 500 PCR Vans deployed around girls schools and colleges," said Anil Mittal, Additional Public Relation Officer (APRO) of Delhi Police.

Transport Department informed LG that the process of induction of 1000 buses with CCTV and Panic Button has started.  "Around 25 buses having three CCTV and 14 Panic Buttons each have already joined the cluster fleet on 20th August 2019. It was also informed that tender for CCTV and Panic Buttons is nearing finalization and CCTVs will be installed in existing buses also by April 2020," said an official.

LG further directed Commissioner (Transport) to expedite the process of installing of CCTV and Panic Button in the buses and also to ensure that Women helpline number is properly displayed on all DTC and Cluster Buses. Chairperson, DCW raised the issue of Spas with illegal activities mushrooming in the city. LG directed theCommissioner of Police to take stringent action in the matter.
