The voting for the third and last phase of the Panchayat elections would be held on Wednesday.

In these elections the 11,167 candidates are in fray for 21,391 for posts of three tier panchayati raj system.

Thousands of posts of the member village panchayat would remain vacant in third phase too as there are only 2,176 candidates for 17,929 posts.  For 2,416 posts of village Pradhans, 5,611 candidates are in fray. For 931 posts of the member block panchayat, 2,845 candidates are in the contest while 535 candidates are fighting it out for 115 posts of district panchayat member.

The State election commission has claimed to have taken all measures for free and fair elections.

On Tuesday, 2,469 polling parties left for their destinations in villages. On Monday 719 polling parties had left for the polling stations located in remote areas.

After end of the voting, the counting of votes would be done on October 21 and the results are expected to be declared on the same day.

The voters of Salt, Syaldeh and Bhikiasain blocks of Almora district,  Rikhnikhal, Pokhra, Thalisain, Nainidanda and Beeronkhal blocks of Pauri and Khatima and Sitarganj blocks of Udham Singh Nagar district would cast their votes on Wednesday.

Similarly, voters of Pati block of Champawat district, Dharchula, Munsyari and Deedihat blocks of Pithoragarh district, Betalghat and Okhalkanda blocks of Nainital district, Kapkot block of  Bageshwar district, Mori and Purola blocks of Uttarkashi district would also participate in the elections.

The voting will also be held at Dewal, Tharali and Narayanbagar blocks of Chamoli district,  Kirtinagar, Narendranagar and Devprayag blocks of Tehri district, Agastyamuni block of Rudraprayag district and Vikasnagar and Chakrata blocks of Dehradun district on the day.
