Lions Club observes Diabetes Week

The Lions Club International organized an awareness programme from November 10 to November 14 on the occasion of World Diabetes Week.

Taking the call, the club members of District 322 A, which has 87 clubs including more than 12 clubs in and around Jamshedpur, conducted programmes like rallies, talk shows, and awareness drives in community, educational institutions, old age homes, remand homes and similar places.

The members also organized random blood tests in several schools, colleges and localities during this period. Lions Fraternity of Region I and II, which covers entire Kolhan Division, participated actively in the campaign.

Region Chairperson Pranati Das, Zone Chairpersons Vimmi Ranjan, Soma Chand, Rohit Agarwal and Shubham Bajpai in coordination with various clubs were seen active throughout the World Diabetes Week which attracted tremendous response.

Many former District Governors including A K Srivastava, Rajeev Ranjan, Lion Kanchan Singh, Anand Choudhary, Rajnish Kumar also extended their support in making the week long programme a success.

The week long programme concluded on World Diabetes Day on 14 November with a counselling and blood test session at National Institute of Technology (NIT), Jamshedpur’s Conference room of Computer Department in the evening.

 The programme was inaugurated by Prof. Karunesh Kumar Shukla, Director, NIT Jamshedpur, who appreciated the Lions for taking up this project which he said was the need of the hour.

Dr. Suman Kandulna, Surveillance and Medical Officer of World Health Organization and Dr. Veena Singh, District Medical officer of Saraikela District talked about Dos and Donts of Diabetes, its precaution, remedies and food habits to be followed.

Since examination time is near, it was decided to have a session on stress management and how the show must go on. Former District Governor Rajnish Kumar conducted the motivating session with a number of exercises and quizzes.

The programme was attended by many lion members of different clubs, students and professors of NIT. It was coordinated by Prof Sanjay, Dean Student Welfare, Prof. Namrata, Associate Dean and Prof Rashmi Sinha.
