The Literacy Week was celebrated by the Department of English of the DAV Public School Pokhariput here with numerous activities and competitions from September 4 to 7 in the school.
On the concluding day, students of Classes-XI and XII recited self-composed poems on literacy. In order to motivate students towards the pleasure of reading books, the Department of Library Science in collaboration with Scholastics organised a four-day book exhibition in the kid’s den.
For the tiny tots, a storytelling session was staged on September 6 in which the eminent storyteller Prachi Tara Mishra of the Bakul Foundation enthralled the kids with two magnificent stories.
Several competitions like story telling for Classes III-V, literary quiz for Class VI-VII, story writing for Classes-IX and X, poster making and self-composed poems for Classes-XI and XII were conducted during the week to identify and nurture the literary talents of the students. The winners were felicitated in the valedictory function.
Eminent academician and writer Dr Gopa Ranjan Mishra attended as chief guest of the valedictory ceremony lauded the efforts of the teachers and students in spreading the message of literacy.
He advised the students to maintain the record of their daily experiences in the form of diary entries and other literary forms like poems and stories.
