Though late, a liver transplant unit at the SCB Medical College Hospital in Cuttack is likely to be operational by the end of December this year.
Health & Family Welfare Minister Naba Kishore Das has directed the officials concerned to complete the project by the first week of December. He has also asked for steps within a month for recruiting trained professionals for liver transplant.
Besides, the officials were given two months’ time to set up the unit equipped with a modular OT (operation theatre) and other necessary equipments.
Notably, a liver transplant unit at the SCB is a long-pending project of the Government since 2012. After functioning of the unit, the patients now going outside the State to consult doctors and spending lakhs of rupees for liver transplant will get the benefit here.
