The police nabbed a person smuggling liquor in an expensive Sports Utility Vehicle in Haridwar on Thursday. The seizure has brought to light the trend among bootleggers to use expensive vehicles to avoid suspicion while undertaking their illicit activities.
The police had received information on Thursday that a high-end vehicle was being used to smuggle illicit liquor from Ranipur Jhaal to Jwalapur. Acting on the tip off, the police began checking vehicles near Sitapur petrol pump. After a while, they came across a Toyota Fortuner with registration number HR 29 AB-0023. On checking the SUV, the police found eight boxes of whiskey.
These comprised five boxes of one brand and three of another. The driver has been identified as Ambreek Singh. He was arrested by the police.
It is pertinent to mention here that on the directions of the Haridwar senior superintendent of police Senthil Avoodai K Raj S, the police have been focusing more on tackling liquor smuggling and substance abuse in the district.
