Man arrested for bludgeoning friend during drinking session

A 62-year-old man died after being hit with a brick during a drinking session with his friend on Monday night. The injured was taken to hospital where he succumbed after two days. The incident was reported in Mandir Marg area of New Delhi district.

The deceased has been identified as Jeevan while the accused has been identified as Mohammed Zakir, a resident of Central Delhi’s Nabi Karim area. Police said that both of them used to work at a tent house shop in Gol Market area.

According to a senior police official, on Monday, around 8.15 pm, a police control room (PCR) call was received regarding the incident following which an Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV) was dispatched for the spot.

"The injured man was found lying on the footpath. He was taken to Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) hospital. Doctors told police that the man had got severe head injuries and was unfit for the statement," said the police official adding that a case under section 308 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered at Mandir Marg Police Station, on the basis of statements given by witness.

"During initial investigation, it was revealed that the Jeevan along with the accused Zakir were consuming alcohol. The duo had a alteration over petty issue following which the accused hit the head of Jeevan several times with the brick," said the police official privy to investigation.

"Jeevan succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday following which a case under section 302 has been registered and the accused has been arrested. Police have also recovered the brick used in the crime," said the police official adding that further investigation is going on.
