The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the State Crime Branch on Tuesday arrested one Sudhir Sahoo for allegedly defrauding several NGOs of over Rs 62 lakh.
Sahoo is the managing director of Rudhitapa Institute of Technology and Management Private Limited having its office in Saptasati Vihar in the Palasuni area here. He was arrested on the basis of a complaint lodged by secretary of Nayagarh-based NGO HAMS, Bijaya Kumar Mohapatra.
The complainant had alleged that the accused had misappropriated huge amount of money from different NGOs including his NGO on the pretext of giving lucrative remunerations for imparting various skill development programmes.
The investigation revealed that the accused induced many NGOs engaged in imparting training in different skill development programmes with false assurance that his company is having franchise of National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIEIT) of Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and also Khadi Village Industries Commission (KVIC).
“The accused cheated 15 NGOs of more than Rs 62 lakhs. He has also cheated many other NGOs and persons, which is under verification and the misappropriated amount might exceed more than Rs 1 crore. Further investigation of the case is on,” said an EOW official.
