Man asks 14 women to invest in NGO projects, held for duping

The TT Nagar police have booked an Uttar Pradesh based person for duping 14 women to the tune of Rs 75 lakh in the name of providing 15 percent interest on their investment by investing in NGO projects.

Police said that victim Anita Chouhan claimed that the accused lured her and several other women in the name of providing good rate of interest on their investment.

The complaint is lodged by one of the victims who was acquainted with the accused. The victims were assured that the money invested would be safe and 15 percent interest on their money invested.

In her complaint Anita stated that the accused Prabhat Dubey alias Dharmendra Kumar used to operate an NGO having project of Women and Children Welfare Department and offered her to provide 15 percent interest on money she would invest. After getting assured that she invested Rs 1 lakh in June last year and he provided interest for next few months and in the same manner 13 more women invested a total of Rs 75.15 lakh which the accused used to deposit in his bank account and later along with the family he went missing and withdraw the money

The accused used to live in a rented room for the past 3 years.

The accused hailed from Uttar Pradesh. Police suspects that the accused escaped to Uttar Pradesh. The police have registered a case under section 420 of the IPC and have started search for the accused.
