A man allegedly attempted to kill his son-in-law near Punjikaya Chhak under the Digapahandi police station in Ganjam district on Thursday night.
Though the motive behind the attack was yet to be ascertained, it was suspected that the accused Umakanta Gouda was unhappy with the love marriage of his daughter.
The youth identified as Sanjay Gouda of Kalyanpur village was rushed to the MKCG Medical College Hospital here with injuries on his stomach and head.
Sanjay was attacked with a knife at Punjikaya Chhak at around 10.30 pm. Hearing his screams, when locals rushed to the spot, Umakanta fled from the spot.
Sources said Sanjay was in love with Umakanta’s daughter Jayanti and had married her in a temple in presence of both of their family members and relatives on June 30.The couple was staying in a rented house near Punjikaya Chhak.
But no police complaint was lodged in this connection till filing of the report.
