The Ainthapali police on Tuesday nabbed a person for allegedly beheading his cousin brother while the latter was sleeping outside his home at Bhalupali in Sambalpur late on Monday night.

The deceased was identified as Satyanarayana Munda.

The incident occurred while Satyanarayana was sleeping on the verandah outside his house when the accused beheaded him and fled from the spot with the head.

The matter came to light when locals and neighbours spotted the headless body lying in a pool of blood early morning and informed police.

The Ainthapali police along with a forensic team reached the spot and sent the body to a local hospital for postmortem. The Sambalpur SP also reached the spot and took stock of the situation.

Later, the cops with the help of dog squad traced the accused and apprehended him. Following this, police also seized a bag from him that was stuffed with the severed head and the weapon of offence.

While the accused is being interrogated by cops, he would be forwarded to the court on Wednesday, sources said.
