Man visits graveyard to offer prayer at daughter’s grave, shot dead

A 38-year-old grieving father who went to offer prayer at her daughter’s grave in Welcome area graveyard in North east Delhi was allegedly shot dead by three unidentified persons.

The chilling murder took place on Friday afternoon.  The deceased has been identified as Mehfuz a resident of Welcome area. According to Atul Kumar Thakur, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), North east district, the incident occurred around 3.30 pm in Welcome area of Delhi on Friday when Mehfuz after offering Friday namaj went to qabristan (graveyard) to pray at his daughter’s grave.

While he was praying, three unidentified assailants came there and after a scuffle they shot him multiple times at point-blank range.

“He had six bullet injury marks on his body. Police was informed by the locals and after reaching the spot Mehfuz was rushed to nearby hospital where doctors declared him brought dead,” said the DCP.

“A case has been registered under sections 302 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Welcome Police Station. Police teams are scanning CCTV cameras in the area to identify the assailants. Two cases under section 302, 307 of IPC are registered against accused. Police is probing the case with all angles including personal enmity. Further investigation underway,” the DCP added.
