Hundreds of farmers blocked the National Highway (NH) at Chari Chhak in Dharamgarh of Kalahandi district on Monday in protest against the closure of local mandis and subsequent non-procurement of paddy.
The farmers resorted to the roadblock by placing sacks of paddy on the NH in the morning, disrupting vehicular movement on the route.
According to reports, the mandis in the area were closed on June 30, for which the farmers were unable to sell their produce.
The local administration had assured the farmers regarding reopening of mandis from July 3, which is yet to happen.The Congress and the BJP have extended their support to the farmers’ agitation.
