The state government has claimed that it was under pressure from Maoists that villagers of Potali in Dantewada district of Bastar region staged a demonstration on Tuesday.
There was a drastic change in their behavior when they were pacified on Wednesday, it claims.
Notable, a couple of days ago a security camp was established in Potali village in Aranpur region of Dantewada district. Hundreds of villagers on Tuesday assembled and demonstrated against opening of security camp in their village.
Government sources accepting that there was resentment among villagers over opening of security camp, claimed that on Wednesday there was a drastic change in the attitude of villagers.
In a press communiqué state government claimed that they will win hearts of Potali villagers through development of the region and by providing them security from the Maoists.
“Potali is strategically a very important location for Naxals as it is considered their safe corridor, Naxals are instigating the villagers to oppose the camp,” the communiqué said.
“Trust-Development-Security’ model of policing in Potali would be adopted by Dantewada police to deal with Maoist problem”, the communiqué added.
