Punjab Sports Department and Mohali District Administration on Sunday teamed up to organize an international standard chip-timed full marathon in Mohali.
The event, comprised 42 kilometre full marathon, 21 km (half marathon), 10 km and five kms open fun runs, is based on the theme of ethical voting to inspire younger generation to enrol as voters.
Punjab Governor and UT Administrator VP Singh Badnore, who was the chief guest, said that the run is an attempt to educate more people to cast their votes in the upcoming general elections.
The Governor, who also distributed the awards to winners, termed it as a positive signal that around 60,000 people participated in the marathon which was organised simultaneously in all 22 districts of the state.
In Mohali alone, more than 10,000 people participated in different categories of the run, he said while appreciating the State Government’s decision to link this marathon to the Election Commission’s I-vote campaign.
A total of Rs 20.12 lakh worth prizes were given away to the winners of different runs.
International marathon runners, especially from Kenya and Ethiopia won several prizes in different categories of the run.
