A woman sustained critical injuries after some masked miscreants attacked her with blades and hurled acid at her at Banisia village under the Soro police station in the district late on Friday night. The victim was Manjulata Jena (36).
Sources said the incident occurred when Manjulata had gone to attend nature’s call. She was attacked from behind.
The criminals thrashed her, slit her throat with a blade and threw acid-like substance on her. When Manjulata started screaming, her family members and locals rushed to her rescue.
However, the miscreants had fled from the spot by then. The woman was rushed to the nearby hospital with critical injuries on her hands, legs and throat. However, the doctor attending her said her condition was stable now.
A complaint has been lodged in this regard. It was suspected that the attack was fallout of a land dispute and past enmity.
