Excise department conducted a total of 610 raids across the state, registering 302 cases of offence and arrested 288 persons since the election model code of conduct for Lok Sabaha elections came into force.
Two vehicles, illegal liquors and materials worth Rs 11.22 lakh were seized during these raids. As per information provided by Excise department, 1388 litres of liquor worth Rs 2.91 lakh, around 163 litres of liquor brought from other states, ‘Mahuwa’, country-made liquor, worth Rs 1.60 lakh and two vehicles worth Rs 6.70 lakhs were confiscated. Excise commissioner Dr Kamalpreet Singh said that control rooms have been set up at state level and in 27 district headquarters. Excise teams based on the complaints and information are conducting raids and taking action.
These raids have been conducted within a week from March 10 to March 17, the commissioner said.
