Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati expelled senior woman leader Ruchi Veera from the party for anti-party activities and indiscipline.
Veera had contested the 2019 Lok Sabha polls on BSP ticket from Aonla but was defeated.
In 2014, Veera became a Samajwadi Party MLA after winning bypoll but just before the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, she joined the BSP and was fielded from Aonla.
Recently, Ruchi Veera had attended a traders’ conference organised by the Bharatiya Janata Party and this had irked the BSP brass, leading to her expulsion.
Meanwhile on Friday, Mayawati questioned Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s bonanza to the corporate sector by slashing corporate tax on companies.
“The Union government is terming reduction in corporate tax as historic and claiming that it will end the economic slowdown and crisis. May it be so as the serious crisis that has come over people’s livelihood should end. But the basic question is, why did we take such a step earlier which has to be rolled back now?” she asked in tweets.
The BSP chief’s comments came hours after Sitharaman announced tax cuts and
fiscal reliefs saying that domestic corporate tax was being slashed to an effective 25.17 per cent, inclusive of all surcharges and cess.
The move would cost the national exchequer Rs 1.45 lakh crore. The changes have been brought through an ordinance.
Sitharaman said that manufacturing companies set up after October 1 would have the option to pay 15 per cent tax and effective tax rate for new manufacturing firms would be 17.01 per cent.
